#WarriorPoet: CARROTS Pt.2

Well, according to what I offered to do for you in CARROTS Pt.1, it’s looking like you folks don’t really like having money spent on you but we do have another 24 hours or so, so maybe I’m speaking too soon. Either way, I hope your weekend is going well and let’s get into this whole Carrot subject a little deeper… OH! “…The tricky part about them is that these Carrots don’t always have to be “bad” things” ~Carrots Pt.1

Most people envision satan or the devil or the evil one as a dark character. In cartoons, he’s red with horns on his head and a pitch fork. In some movies, he may be depicted as a deep voiced villain with dark clothes and a sinister type laugh. But in real life, the things that can be meant to do us harm can look just as pleasant and appealing as anything that you can think of.

Have you ever been drawn off course by agreeing to  help someone with something foolish? You’re on your way to an appointment or a meeting and someone asks you for a ride and says, “It’ll only take 5 minutes!” You reluctantly go along with it and find out that it’ll actually take 20 minutes and you find out that they want you to do something silly like take them to pick up the new Jordans that they have waiting at a sneaker store?!?! Something that they could’ve done on their own! Sure, it may have taken them longer to do it without you but you really didn’t need to be drawn off course for that. That person didn’t come dressed as evil. But they did present you with a carrot that took you off of your focused path to destiny and took you down the path of distraction, all because you were trying to be nice.

Have you ever elected to listen to a person’s problems or be a shoulder for them? And then somewhere in that conversation it goes from them venting to them basically gossiping and slandering other people’s reputations? But you being the friend that you are, you sit there and listen. You may not even give any input but you sit there and hear them out because they have a lot on their mind. After that conversation ends, you start to get phone calls that are now implementing your name in situations that you had nothing to do with? It’s now being said that YOU said such and such. And that YOU had something to say about so and so. You have a proper relationship with certain people who now might be headed down the road of distraction and destruction all because a carrot lured you into a conversation. This carrot wasn’t satanic or evil. But again, you chose to engage because you were trying to lend an ear and/or be a shoulder for someone in need, and in the process you got taken off the right road and placed on the path of foolery.

I would suggest that we all start to really examine what motivates us. The reason is, the evil forces are smart enough to know that they can’t show up with horns and a pitchfork. None of us would go for that. Instead, what they do is, present carrots in the form of things that are appealing to us… or things that we would give in to… or things that we would go along with or help out with. Why? Because all it takes is 1 small step in the wrong direction or down the wrong path… actually, let me not even say “the wrong path,” Let’s rephrase that… All it takes is one small step down any path OTHER THAN our path to destiny and step by step, we are moving further and further away from our purpose, our calling, and where we are intended to be.

Evil does not need to show up and destroy you, all it needs to do is present itself in the right packaging and distract you. Once we are distracted, we’re headed down an alternative path and who knows how long it’ll take for us to realize that? Finally, once we do actually realize it, we now have to back track and make up for lost time to get back on the right path and we all know that time is our only uncontrollable possession… Time is the one thing that once lost, we can NEVER get back.

I would say that my MAJOR carrot is spending time/energy on people whose situations really don’t need me. Looking at the amount of people who I know and have access to me… multiplied by all of the things that they come to me with for my opinion… compounded by the fact that I love to help and give insight where I can… added to the fact that a LARGE portion of these situations could be alleviated and figured out by these people on their own if they just sat still, thought about it, prayed, meditated, applied non-emotional common sense, etc… that has been a MAJOR distraction in my life and as of late, I have been applying new ways to assist people and help out where I can, without being distracted and taken off course. Believe it or not, this #WarriorPoet blog is one of those ways. Over the past few months, people have come to me and I’d respond with, “Fam, Go to my blog and check out the post called ‘Such and Such.’” Yes, it’s less personal since we’re not engaged in a conversation together but if your true reason for calling was to get some insight,  then the blog has it. Otherwise, you called for more than just insight, and with all due respect, I don’t have time nor energy to give to those types of carrots right now. I’ve got some major life-changing seeds in my life that have been planted years ago and are finally starting to sprout leaves and this would be the PERFECT time for me to be distracted all in the name of “Being there for my fiends.“
