#WarriorPoet- YOUR OXYGEN MASK
A group of friends go out to a party. They have a great time and it was all captured on camera since the promoter of the party hired a few photographers to snap photos. The next morning, one of the friends goes online and finds the photo album of the party they all attended the night before. He copies the link to all of his friends and they all open their e-mail messages to check out the link as well. Question… When we’re looking through pictures, that we know we’re in, who is the first person we look for when looking through the photos? Exactly… And what determines whether or not the picture is a good picture or a bad picture? LOL EXACTLY! Why? Because we’re self-centered. All of us have a degree of self-centeredness. Selfish is a...

When was the last time that you looked in the mirror? And I don’t mean casually noticing the crust in your eye while brushing your teeth in the morning or raising your phone up to take a “selfie” to post on instagram. I’m talking about a good long look… A look where you DON’T suck your stomach in and you look at yourself from both the frontal and profile views… A look where you’re paying enough attention to notice your first gray hair… Or your 21st gray hair lol… A look in which you notice that you’ve always looked like your mom but now you’re starting to show signs that your dad just might actually be your dad… A look in which you spot flaws but you also take pride in the things you...

She made them wake up in the middle of the night. She made them carry lanterns and bundles of courage. She made them envision what the North and freedom would be like as they traveled the underground railroad. She made them do something. They walked. They shouted. They sat in. They bonded. They did all of these things in the name of Civil Rights and all because of one man named King. He made them do something… He made them walk… shout… sit-in… and bond… He provoked action. He made them do something. They hated to see him starve so they took action in regards to equality. They walked. They tried to keep peace for a man named Gandhi. He made them do something. The German army drove thousands of Jewish people from their homes and...

If you’ve never said the following phrase, you’ve definitely heard it. It goes, “Everyone makes mistakes.” And it is a very valid and true statement. We make mistakes everyday. My only problem with this statement is that we often use it as a crutch and as a way to excuse ourselves from stupidity. Here’s an example. I saw a 4-year-old with his shoes on the wrong feet… Naturally I laughed and stated, “Hey lil homie… Your feets are on the wrong shoes!” He looked at me smiling and replied, “Huh?” I pointed and jokingly repeated, “Your feets are on the wrong shoes!” He laughed and said, “Oh, I have on the wrong feets?” I laughed and said, “Yes, you have on the wrong...

Stuff happens. Not just to me, not just to you, but to us all. There’s an awesome book written by a gentleman named Matthew (Former IRS employee) which states “The sun rises on the evil and on the good, and rain falls on the just and on the unjust.” Stuff happens. But I’m going to show you, as always, my own perspective on how to deal with “stuff.” I will be using the game of chess as a reference point for today’s sharing session. No, you don’t need to know how to play chess to grasp it, all you have to do follow the pics! So, In my stay here on planet earth, I’ve concluded that there are 4 things you can do when it comes to stuff. In the game of Chess, the object is to capture the other person’s king...
